We are well into the ice fishing season and fishing has been pretty good. We have been catching some walleye, crappies, bluegills and some bass and pike in the mix. There is truck traffic on nearly all lakes, but there are still some thinner areas on local lakes. We haven't had the super cold weather needed to really make a ton of ice. That looks to be changing as of today and we should be making some good ice soon.
Panfish have been found in shallow bays in and around the remaining weeds on some lakes and then out in basin areas on others. The main goto has been the VMC Bull Spoon in the 1/32 oz. size. You can tip this with some wigglers or a wax worm, or fish it with no bait when they are a bit more aggressive.
We have been finding walleyes in both deep and shallow water. Bigger fish have been found in and around the weeds and rocks and more numbers of smaller fish have been found on the edges of mid-lake points and humps. We have been using VMC Tingler Spoons, Rattle Spoons, Bull Spoons all tipped with minnow heads or tails and also set lines with shiners and fatheads. Use flashy and noisy baits when you're not marking fish and downsize if they shy away. Get out away from the groups of houses and search in new areas to find active bites.
Get out there and give it a shot. If you would like more information or to book a trip contact us at:
